Day 15 (April 29, 2007) - Dostoyevsky's Crane

Just walking around my room, and
thought this made an interesting
photograph. I love taking photos
of my cranes, but I realized I don't
have any for this 365 day project.

Also, I love Penguin Popular Classics.

REBOOT! Day 10 (April 24, 2007) - Night Stop

Taken outside the Newton MRT station, on the walkway
towards the Bukit Timah bus stop. I also saw a medium
sized rat of fair health and glossy fur. It romped around in
the grass and threw itself on its back like...like something
that enjoys a good romp in the grass. I didn't take
the photo, because I was in too much shock over the
whole thing. I definitely still have to work on those
photography skills, eh?

In the meantime, this bicycle will have to do.

REBOOT! Day 9 (April 23, 2007) - Diagram

My father actually created this for work. I spent hours
studying it. I'm always drawn to diagrams, the way
things are flattened and labeled and ordered
and explained: this is rarely how life actually works.
It is instead messy, poorly organized, and beyond
description and explanation. Hence why I love
these things, diagrams.

REBOOT! Day 8 (April 22, 2007) - Don't Stop the Rain

Not feeling very good today. I suppose the weather
reflected that quite nicely today. There was a time
when my father's car was drowning, just like all the
other cars, in a sea of gray. The extreme lack of
visibility, the thunderous sound of the rain,
and the flooded nature of the air was the highlight
of my whole day. I hope tomorrow will be better.

Reboot! Day 7 (April 21, 2007) - Visiting Oz

A particularly interesting exhibit at the National
Museum of Singapore. The chandeliers, all arranged in a
row, would take on certain swinging patterns at
specified times (as detailed by the exhibit description).

I couldn't resist taking a shot. Yay for telephoto lens!

Added the green (to bring out the red) and multi-exposed it.

Reboot! Day 6 (April 20, 2007) - Book Worm

Not a very interesting photo today, but I suppose there's more of a story behind this one. My reading habit has severely slipped over the past year. Starting with a few weeks ago, I've been trying to get my hands on as many books as possible, as if to make up for lost time.

Some I've read before, but have never owned a copy. Others are completely new and alien, and are recommended by friends more literate than myself. Others are what I've been meaning to pick up for a long time. Others have been lent to me generously by friends. Most have been found on sale. The Penguin Popular Classics are my new hero, as they offer amazing books at lower prices (since they print on 95% recycled paper, and spend less on packaging). Others weren't as kind on my wallet, but I had to get them anyway!

The current (and eclectic?) reading list:
1) Judith Butler's Gender Trouble
2) Augusten Burrough's Possible Side Effects
3) Koji Suzuki's Dark Water
4) Donald Miller's Blue Like Jazz: Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality
5) Joseph Conrad's The Eastern Stories
6) Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's A Study in Scarlet
7) Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead
8) Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy: Inferno
9) J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan
10) Edgar Allan Poe's Selected Tales
11) Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime And Punishment
12) Roland Barthes' Camera Lucida

Just scratched off the reading list:
1) Roald Dahl's Book of Ghost Stories
2) Alison Bechdel's Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic
3) Oscar Wilde's The Happy Prince and Other Stories

REBOOT! Day 5 (April 19, 2007) - Signs of the Times

There is so much of Singapore that is under
heavy, and constant construction.

I simply couldn't come up with just one photo!
(Though if I had to choose just one, it would be the
random self-molestation one)

This is Preet, who I visited at the National University
of Singapore today. I took pictures of her when
she should have been studying for papers/exams.

REBOOT! Day 3 (April 17, 2007) - Girl in Blue

(Click on image for Full View)

I felt like a bit of a stalker in this one. This was taken
from my bedroom window (which is on the 2nd floor),
and this little girl was swimming in the pool with her family.
I used by stalker-ish AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G
lens for this shot. The shadow on the right is from my
bedroom curtain. I liked the mistake, so I kept it.

REBOOT! Day 1 (April 15, 2007) - 53046

(Click on image for Full View)
I finally have been able to recharge my camera battery!
No more sucky camera photos! (I really just couldn't
take it) And so to be fair to myself, I've decided to
completely REBOOT and start from Day 1.

I'm now in Singapore visiting my father. This was
taken while crossing the bridge from the bus stop
to my dad's apartment along Upper Bukit Timah.
The soft edges were from my lens fogging up: the
buses can be damn cold, and the air has been cool
and humid in Singapore lately.
